The music teacher and composer John Pyke Hullah (1812–84) is best remembered for his 'singing school for schoolmasters'. Published in 1876, this generously illustrated work is the second edition of the lectures he gave in 1865 at the Royal Institution, covering music history from the Renaissance to Handel.
