Inspired by the Russian folk character Baba Yaga, this middle-grade novel follows the character Marinka through her struggles with a house that strides away on chicken legs prior to her ever having a chance to make friends, and with a grandmother who is in the business of shepherding the souls of the dead into the next world Marinka dreams of a normal life, but her house has chicken legs and moves on without warning. For Marinka's grandmother is Baba Yaga, who guides spirits between this world and the next. Marinka longs to change her destiny and sets out to break free from her grandmother's footsteps, but her house has other ideas...
